BRAKE CONTROLLERS

Australian road rules state that all trailers with a gross trailer mass exceeding 750kg must have brakes. The most common heavy trailers operate either an electromagnetic or hydraulic trailer brake system that both require a brake controller to moderate braking on the trailer. There are two main types of Brake Control systems – Time-activated and Proportional. Time-activated systems apply maximum trailer braking over a preset time – usually one to three seconds. Proportional systems determine the tow vehicle’s rate of deceleration and apply the trailer brakes to match. Typically speaking, time-activated systems are suitable for towing lighter loads and for straighter, flatter roads. Proportional systems are more suited to towing loads over two tonnes and when driving in hilly and/or windy conditions.

CLEARVIEW MIRRORS

One of the most important factors when it comes to road safety is the ability to see what’s going on around you and your vehicle. Standard mirrors often don’t provide the vision required when towing large objects, such as caravans, trailers and horse floats. Towing mirrors are required by law in Australia when towing anything wider than your vehicle.

If your side mirrors are ineffective with the trailer hitched up, Clearview Extendable Towing Mirrors provide the extra visibility required to see you safely to your destination.

Clearview Towing Mirrors aren’t just great for reversing, they also provide the extra visibility to be aware of vehicles coming up behind you, wanting to overtake.

Vehicles nowadays include an advanced level of technology which is often incorporated into their side mirrors. These features can include Outside Air Temperature (OAT) Sensors, GPS, AM-FM, Blindspot Monitoring Systems and 360-degree Cameras.

Clearview Accessories® has been manufacturing Extendable Towing Mirrors since 2009 and has experienced the rapid advancement of technology first-hand.

Our customers don’t want to compromise on their vehicle’s features when they install towing mirrors, and it’s for this reason that we’ve remained at the forefront of emerging mirror technologies.

We have long-standing relationships with the vehicle manufacturers and work closely with them to develop OE Authorised Towing Mirrors. This becomes more important as technology advances and unapproved mirrors can result in fault codes and loss of functionality, such as driver assist functions.

Clearview Towing Mirrors® are a full replacement extendable towing mirrors designed to replace your vehicle’s standard side mirrors.

Clearview Extendable Towing Mirrors are designed for towing trailers, caravans, boats, and horse floats.

Compact & Next Gen Extendable Mirror Features

The Clearview Next Gen & Compact Towing Mirrors extend out as far as the Clearview Original Mirrors but retract to close to the factory profile of the standard mirrors they replace!

When set to their normal driving position, the mirrors remain unobtrusive during your daily commute when you don’t need extended mirrors, or when you need to fit into tight spaces. For a clearer view of your set up when towing or reversing, Clearview’s Next Gen & Compact Mirrors extend a full 180mm, extending your field of vision to help see you to your destination safely.

Mirror size and driving position comparable to OEM mirrors.

Telescopic 2-stage extension provides 3 driving positions to choose from, and won’t retract when driving at high speeds or when passing large trucks.

Clearview towing mirrors fold inwards or outwards if accidently struck whilst 4WDing or parked.

Compact Towing Mirrors

Compact Towing Mirrors are just like an OE Mirror, with the additional advantage of the extra visibility that our towing mirror extension provides.

A large convex single mirror reduces the objects that it reflects, allowing the driver to have a much wider field view and diminishing blind spots.

Like all our towing mirrors, our Clearview® Compacts are true replacement mirrors, designed to use the same holes, fittings, and wiring (when applicable) as your original mirrors for plug & play installation. All Clearview Towing Mirrors® are engineered specifically for each vehicle and feature most of the same functionality as the vehicle’s original mirrors.

The Next Generation Towing Mirrors

The Next Gen and its twin mirror design is suitable for towing anything from the smallest of trailers to the largest of vans.

Large top mirror 1:1 ratio. This large, flat mirror provides a narrower field of view, reflecting true distance for reversing. It provides an exact reflection of what’s happening behind you.

This slightly curved bottom mirror makes objects appear further away than they are. This convex mirror reduces the objects that it reflects, allowing the driver to have a much wider field view and diminishing blind spots. This mirror provides a better understanding of what’s happening around the vehicle.

SWAY CONTROLLERS

When travelling with a trailer, strong cross winds and wind buffets from large trucks and buses can result in unnerving trailer sway. A sway controller is designed to be used in conjunction with a Weight Distribution System and prevents trailer sway by retarding the pivotal movement between the tow hitch and the trailer. Hayman Reese provides two models, the Friction Sway Controller and the Dual Cam™ HP Sway Controller. Please note that if your trailer sways without the external forces mentioned above, check that your trailer is loaded and setup correctly. Sway controllers should not be used to counter sway caused by a trailer incorrectly loaded or setup.

Weight distribution kits

Are you aware?

The Next Gen and its twin mirror design is suitable for towing anything from the smallest of trailers to the largest of vans.

Towing without the assistance of a Hayman Reese Weight Distribution System can lead to unsettling trailer sway, compromised steering and braking responsiveness, reduced traction, and headlamp misalignment. Over time, you might also observe decreased fuel efficiency and increased tire wear. Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Systems enhance safety, handling, control, and towing comfort.

The Impact of Using or Not Using a Weight Distribution System

When you employ a Weight Distribution System, the ball weight remains consistent, but the load is uniformly distributed across all axles. This action reinstates the tow vehicle’s proper balance, allowing it to carry the caravan rather than straining under the load.

WHAT IS A WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM?

Weight Distribution Systems are designed to assist in restoring the original geometry of the tow vehicle to its natural state. This is achieved through the spring bars providing a lifting force to the rear of the vehicle and transferring the load correctly back over both vehicle axles. When a trailer is coupled to a tow vehicle, the trailer’s total ball weight is applied directly onto the rear section of the vehicle between the rear axle and towball.

Like a seesaw this will transfer the weight from the front and cause the suspension to lift. Remember – the majority of your braking and all of your steering is handled by your front axles. When travelling, this setup can cause unnerving trailer sway, reduced steering and braking responsiveness, less traction and misaligned head lamps. Over time you may also notice a reduction in economy and increased tyre wear. When using the Weight Distribution System the ball weight remains the same however the load is distributed through the vehicle’s chassis to all four wheels. By doing this, the Weight Distribution System restores the natural balance of the tow vehicle, restoring the correct suspension and steering geometry, braking efficiency and headlight alignment.

All Weight Distribution Systems utilise spring bars to transfer this load through the towbar and onto the tow vehicle’s chassis. Think of the spring bars of a Weight Distribution System as similar to the handles of a wheel barrow, when raised the weight is transferred forward. It is important that the capacity of the Weight Distribution System is correctly chosen based on the actual ball weight of the trailer and that the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations are always followed. To determine which Weight Distribution System is most suitable, first weigh your trailer’s ball weight. We recommend you use a Ball Weight Scale to do this.

Generally most modern trailers manufactured in Australia have a ball weight of 10% of the laden weight. Remember to consider everything you put into the trailer including water, gas bottles, food, etc. The laden weight is often underestimated in Australia and this can become a problem when trying to balance your trailer and tow vehicle with equipment which is not up to the task. Once you have determined your trailer’s ball weight, record it and retain for easy review. TIP: Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Systems work best with genuine Hayman Reese towbars. Some factory fitted towbars are not compatible and need to be evaluated by a Hayman Reese Distributor before use.

Not all 50mm by 50mm hitch receivers are in fact a genuine Hayman Reese product, check your towbar compliance label if you are unsure. Please note that for the purposes of this catalogue when we refer to the trailer, we are referring to any towable product. For example caravans, boats and trailers. With Weight Distribution System Without Weight Distribution System *Please refer to vehicle owners manual for suitability of Weight Distribution Systems.

ARB REAR BAR AND WHEEL CARRIER

ARB’s range of rear bars, incorporating wheel carriers and jerry can holders, provide additional functionality while delivering high quality vehicle protection.

4WDs with the spare tyre mounted on the back door can suffer from unnecessary door assembly stress, while a spare wheel located underneath a vehicle can be difficult to access, be more prone to damage and may affect ground clearance when driving off road. Both of these mounting methods can also prove unsuitable if a larger tyre size is sought.

An ARB rear bar addresses all of these issues, relocating the spare tyre onto the bumper assembly via a swing out carrier.

CARRIER OPERATION

The carriers operate on gas struts that are sufficient to hold each side open in most situations. However, if the vehicle is on an extreme side angle, the locking pin can be engaged to ensure each side remains open.

EASY TO OPERATE

The wheel carrier and jerry can holder is easy to operate, and can be opened by pulling a lever. To close, you simply shut it as you would a car door.

QUICK, CONVENIENT ACCESS

The ARB rear bar system ensures quick, convenient access to the rear of your vehicle.

Key Features

  • Wheel/jerry can carriers can be optioned on either side of the rear bar on most vehicles
  • A single carrier can be fitted, or the rear bar can be installed without any carriers at all. Neat insert panels are used in this instance
  • Twin 33” or a single 35” tyre can be accommodated on most vehicles
  • Carriers are mounted via dual shear pivots for maximum strength
  • Spare tyre is secured to the stud plate with a lock nut with the provision to fit a padlock to secure the stud plate to the carrier
  • Multi fit spare wheel stud system provides flexibility for alternate rim selection
  • Wing sections can be removed and replaced if they sustain damage
